Why can’t I take another job?

NETS believes that successful New England church planting requires a full-time commitment. Those who prefer bi-vocational ministry are encouraged to pursue other options.

What will I be doing all day?

Each day will be different. What you won’t do is sit in a classroom all day, although you will have regular reading and listening assignments as well as meetings. You’ll be serving as an assistant pastor, learning and doing the work of ministry, whatever that requires.

How involved will my wife be?

The NETS Program is for couples. Your wife will be an active part of the Personal & Family, Ministry, and Theology tracks. She’ll participate and serve in the ministries of the church, and be an adjunct member of our Women’s Advisory Board. And she can expect the same level of personal input and attention as her husband.

Why can’t my wife work?

Being a church planter’s wife is also a full-time job. And your wife is a critical part of the Residency and Field Programs.

What if I’m single?

You don’t need to be married to be a successful church planter. But, for a variety of reasons, NETS has chosen to work only with married planters.

Why is NETS only targeting New England?

At NETS, we are excited about the gospel going forth throughout the world! However, our particular calling is to New England, the most gospel-parched region of the nation. We are also looking at other areas in the Northeast, particularly New York and New Jersey college towns.

What about global church planting?

NETS has two churches in Cameroon, and we’re currently considering some exciting possibilities elsewhere. We are internationally opportunistic, open to planting in areas where gospel need and gospel opportunity converge.

Do I need to know where I want to plant a church?

No. Even if you know where you want to plant, things could change. We’ll work with you to target a location that considers need, opportunity, desire and ability.

What about an inner city church plant?

There are many good options for inner city church planters. However, NETS primarily targets New England college towns.

Do I need an MDiv?

We’ll consider either an MDiv or a Master’s degree with languages.

I’m older than most seminary students. Will that work?

NETS has no official age requirement. Each situation is considered on an individual basis.

Do all NETS Residents become church planters?

No. NETS won’t put somebody into the field that we don’t think is ready. We reserve the right to decline admission into the Field Program or to offer an extended residency.

What happens to couples not accepted into the Field Program?

NETS makes a personal commitment to each couple in our Residency Program. If at the mid-point residency evaluation it’s determined that a couple will not be admitted into the Field Program, they have the option of completing their residency while being coached through transitional plans. Each situation is different. We are committed to helping the couple make that transition.
